look up telnet/mail sites for a certain location?
* Use the netfind service -- telnet to bruno cs.colorado.edu and
login as 'netfind'. Help is available there. See also 8a-8d.
* Telnet to info.cnri.reston.va.us 185 [? for instructions]
What are other netfind addresses? archie.au
dino.conicit.ve ds.internic.net
lincoln.technet.sg macs.ee.mcgill.ca
malloco.ing.puc.cl monolith.cc.ic.ac.uk
mudhoney.micro.umn.edu netfind.oc.com
netfind.vslib.cz nic.nm.kr
nic.uakom.sk redmont.cis.uab.edu
I found an internet location using netfind, but my nameserver says
"unknown host". What do I do?
* Telnet to rs.internic.net (198.41.0.5), and use WAIS to
translate the name into an IP number. WAIS also provides
other info about internet sites, like phone numbers and
"snail (postal) mail" addresses for administrators, etc.
* WHOIS at the same address is also useful.
* Another option, often faster, is to use um-dns (#8c, below)
* If you are on a UNIX machine, you can also try nslookup
How do I find out what name is associated with an IP number
(opposite of 8b)?
* telnet 35.1.48.167 (hme3.merit.edu) which host? um-dns
[at the query> prompt, type the ip number, or HELP]
* Type ? at the which host? prompt to see the *many* other
info services here!
I found the address for the computer that my friend uses, but
I don't know his/her exact email address. How do I get that?
Send email to Postmaster@your.friends.computer or root@y.f.c
[OR] check online phone books on panda (address below, more
info in Panda>) [OR] call your friend on the phone. :)
